What to do on a low-energy day when you cannot focus
Start with something small: tell FocusFlow your energy is low and it shows only the few tasks you tagged as low-energy, with a two-minute start and a guilt-free rest. It does not detect your energy for you, and skipping a day never resets your progress.
Some days the problem is not discipline, it is that the tank is low. A tool that assumes full energy every day will fail you on exactly those days.
Why standard focus tools fail on flat days
Most timers and task lists treat every day the same. A full list and a 25-minute countdown can turn a low day into a pile of things you are behind on, which makes starting even less likely.
How FocusFlow handles it
- Tell it your energy. Choose low energy and you see only the few tasks you tagged as low-energy, such as sorting one drawer or replying to one message.
- Start tiny. The I'm stuck screen offers a two-minute start. The line on that screen says that a rough day still counts.
- Choose your timer length. Focus sessions can be 15, 25, 45 or 60 minutes, with a 2-minute mode for the smallest start. There is no forced break phase.
- Rest is an option, not a failure. The same screen offers a guilt-free rest.
Tag tasks by energy before you need them
FocusFlow does not guess how demanding a task is. You tag each one when you create it as high, steady or low energy. Do this on a good day, so that on a bad day the right shortlist is already waiting.
What the garden does on a bad day
Any session adds minutes to the Focus Garden, and missing a day takes nothing away. After four energy check-ins, FocusFlow also starts showing patterns in when your energy tends to be high or low.
This is a productivity tool, not treatment. If low energy is persistent and affects your life, talk to a health professional.
Frequently asked questions
Does FocusFlow know when I am low on energy?
No. You tell it. You choose your current energy in the check-in, and FocusFlow shows tasks you tagged at the same level.
Can I use a shorter timer than 25 minutes?
Yes. Sessions can be 15, 25, 45 or 60 minutes, and there is a 2-minute mode for the smallest start.
Is there a forced break after a session?
No. FocusFlow does not run an automatic break phase.
If starting is the hard part, try a focus app built around the first step.
