How to match tasks to your energy level (and what FocusFlow does)
Tag each task high, steady or low by the energy it needs, check how much energy you really have, then pick only from the matching group. FocusFlow does this with a manual check-in and shows up to three matching tasks; it does not detect your energy automatically.
Choosing what to do next is itself work. Sorting tasks by energy shrinks the list to what is realistic right now.
The method without any app
- Label tasks by the energy they need. High: needs concentration or a hard decision. Steady: ordinary work. Low: mechanical or small, such as filing or a quick reply.
- Check yourself before you pick. Ask how much energy you actually have now, not how much you wish you had.
- Pick from the matching group only. If you are low, ignore the high-energy list for now rather than feeling guilty about it.
- Notice patterns. After a week or two you will see when your high-energy hours tend to fall, and you can place the hard work there.
How FocusFlow does it
- You tag each task as high, medium or low energy when you create it. The English interface calls these High, Steady and Low energy.
- In the energy check-in you choose your current level, and FocusFlow shows up to three tasks tagged at the same level.
- The match is a plain equal-level filter, not a prediction. FocusFlow does not guess how hard a task is.
- After four check-ins, FocusFlow begins to show rhythm insights about when your energy tends to be higher or lower.
When your tag turns out wrong
Tags are your own judgement, so adjust them. If a task labelled low turns out to take real effort, relabel it. The point is a shortlist you trust, not a perfect model.
Frequently asked questions
Does FocusFlow detect my energy automatically?
No. It asks you. You pick high, steady or low in the check-in, and tasks are matched by the tag you gave them.
How many tasks does it show after I pick an energy level?
A short preview of up to three tasks tagged at that level.
When do energy patterns appear?
After four energy check-ins.
If starting is the hard part, try a focus app built around the first step.
